PREP SWIMMING: Sandpoint set 33 new personal records at Brave Knight Invitational

BOISE — The Sandpoint Bulldogs put together copious terrific swims at the massive Brave Knight Invitational in Boise last weekend.

Sandpoint head coach Greg Jackson said the Bulldogs' 22 swimmers set 33 new personal records as they competed against the very best that Idaho has to offer. The Sandpoint girls placed sixth out of 28 teams, while the Sandpoint boys placed seventh out of 28 teams. 

The Bulldog girls were led by a fantastic effort by Alivia Storms in the 100-yard breaststroke event. Storms posted a personal-record 1:14.84 in the final event, good enough for a seventh-place finish and the 11th-best time overall. Summer Loutzenhiser also had an impressive time in the breaststroke, 1:17.90 in the final, which helped Sandpoint secure 21 points in the event. 

Storms set another personal record in the 100-yard freestyle with a 0:59.48 in the final event. London Leavitt made her presence known in the freestyle event as well, posting a 1:05.36 in the preliminary swim. 

"London Leavitt really stepped up as well, and can do even better," Jackson said. 

In the 100-yard backstroke, the Bulldogs' star freshman Myelle Jensen was a force to be reckoned with. In an event with over 65 swimmers from across the state, Jensen finished third with a 1:00.55 in the final event, only being bested by two swimmers from 6A schools from the Boise region. 

Jackson also shouted out Jensen's performance in the 400-yard freestyle relay. The freshman posted a 0:53.84 in the final split to anchor an impressive seventh-place finish for the Bulldogs relay team. 

On the boys side, Jackson said Bodi Demmons and Max Brown could do no wrong in the water last weekend. The Sandpoint head coach said the two Bulldogs were faster every time they hit the water. 

Demmons' day was headlined by a strong swim in the 200-yard freestyle, posting a 1:57.07 final time and a ninth-place finish. Brown also added a great effort in the 200 free, with a 1:58.80 final time, following right behind Demmons in the final swim. 

Lou Foust and Joshua Jackson were stars in the 100-yard backstroke event. Jackson, another star freshman for Sandpoint, finished seventh with a 0:58.82 time while Foust finished with a 1:00.57, right behind Jackson in ninth place.   

"Josh Jackson and Lou Foust were the two fastest 5A backstrokers at the meet," Sandpoint head coach Greg Jackson said. 

The duo also contributed to a fifth-place finish for Sandpoint in the 200-yard medley relay, with a 1:47.44 final time, and a seventh-place finish in the 400-yard freestyle relay, a 3:35.23. 

Sandpoint's strong performance will have them more than prepared for when they return home for a meet at the Litehouse YMCA on Friday, Oct. 9 at 4 p.m.
