PRIEST RIVER — After their third loss of the season, the Priest River Spartans responded with a dominant sweep (25-20, 25-9, 25-13) of Central Idaho league foe Grangeville on Saturday afternoon.

Junior outside hitter McKinley Burgess-Duquette once again led the Spartans in kills with 13, while fellow senior setter Haylee Jepson-Church masterfully distributed the offense to the tune of 24 assists. Priest River head coach Katlyn Ward said the game was a great opportunity to practice new things on a quick turnaround. 

Jepson-Church added five digs, the second-most for the Spartans behind senior Callie Stanger's nine. Stanger totaled five aces, while fellow senior Raygn Turner posted a team-high six aces against the winless Bulldogs. 

At the net, freshman Ava Griesemer totaled five blocks to propel the Spartans to an 8-3 overall record and a 3-2 record in league play.  

Next up for Priest River was a league showdown with St. Maries at home on Sept. 29 at 7 p.m. The game did not end before the Bee's print deadline, and a full recap will appear in the Thursday edition. The Spartans will play host to Timberlake in their final home matchup of the year on Thursday, Oct. 1 at 7 p.m.
