The Wildkats softball team maintained its tie with Polson for the top spot in the Northwest A Conference last week, picking up a 22-0 win over conference foe Browning and going 2-2 in non-conference matchups.

So this week our intrepid Slalom ace decided to dabble in the speed events at Lake Louise, and came away with Gold and Bronze in the two Downhills, plus an impressive fifth place in Super G. This girl does it all. Our ladies showed depth in the speed events, with Jacqui Wiles posting Downhill finishes of fifth and 23rd, Breezy Johnson placing 10th and Stacey cook 11th and 6th. Lindsey Vonn’s return from injury remains frustrating. She only finished one of the three races, posting 12th in the second Downhill.

It is great to be back among the vines and wineries, especially during, or in some cases close to, harvest. The rumble of grape trucks is frequent, but not yet constant. We have seen harvesting crews in many vineyards as we travel about, and the most lovely of aromas of fermenting grapes is present in the few wineries we took time to visit.

The Flathead County Sheriff's Office took a call from a woman who said she'd gone into a store with $20 in her hand and it fell somewhere. She went home and called the store, where the clerk said the money hadn't been found. The woman wanted the clerk charged with theft.

Jeanette Egeland-Russell

Jeanette A. Egeland Russell, 75, of Richland, Washington passed away on Sept. 6, 2022, at Brookdale Richland. Jeanette was born June 10, 1947, in Grafton, North Dakota. the daughter of the late Florian and Sophie (Pokrzywinski) Kasprick. She attended Polaski Township Country School and graduated from Grafton High School in 1963. She enjoyed playing the accordion and even played on a Grand Forks TV concert. She was united in marriage to the late David Gary Egeland on Dec. 10, 1966. They moved to Moses Lake, Washington in 1976. She worked for Skaug Brothers, a local family store, where she developed a reputation for customer service and interior design.

Glacier National Park officials say snow conditions will delay the opening of the Two Medicine Campground. Several feet of snow still cover most of the camp sites, and access to facilities is limited. The campground may open by June 6, or as conditions allow.
