Avalanche awareness classes slated

The Flathead Avalanche Center will host free Advanced Avalanche Awareness classes at the Flathead National Forest Office, 650 Wolfpack Way, in Kalispell, from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 7; Wednesday, Jan. 9; Monday, Jan. 14; and Wednesday, Jan. 16. Two field sessions will be held at the Whitefish Mountain Resort from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 12, and Saturday, Jan. 19. No registration is needed.

Judge orders wolf hunting, trapping reopened

A district court judge on Jan. 2 reopened wolf hunting and trapping seasons in two areas north of Yellowstone National Park. The areas were closed by the Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks Commission on Dec. 10 in response to concern that hunters were taking wolves with collars that supplied scientific information to Yellowstone National Park researchers.

Public invited to learn about recreating in bear country

BONNERS FERRY — The Idaho Conservation League is teaming up with Brian Johnson, Idaho Department of Fish and Game grizzly bear information and education conservation officer, and Brett Lyndaker, Idaho Panhandle National Forests wildlife biologist, to teach local residents about recreating in bear country. The event is scheduled for Thursday, June 7, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., at the Bonners Ferry Ranger Station, located at 6286 Main St.

Anna Creek Cabin available to rent

The Hungry Horse Ranger District has announced the Anna Creek Cabin is available to rent by the public. This cabin is the only rental cabin in the Hungry Horse Reservoir area and provides an excellent base for multiple recreational opportunities. The Anna Creek Cabin rental season is June 1 through Oct. 31.
