A tough challenge: Buy local, fresh food

In my quest to partake in the 100-mile challenge (purchasing all your food within a 100-mile radius of your home) I have discovered a bountiful selection of local farmers with wonderful programs to get their food into your home. Purchasing sustainable foods from growers who use natural farming practices ensures that you are putting good, chemical/hormone-free food into your body. As a society, we need to rethink how we look at our food source and how we shop.

Doug later followed Les to Klamath Falls, OR where the two men worked at Les’ father’s auto shop. Soon after, Doug began his timber falling career. In the mid-80’s he moved to Camptonville, CA where he started his own business, “Casavan Contract Cutting” and continued timber falling until 2011.

Summer tragedy gives rise to new garden possibilities

When I discovered that my coveted grove of White Fir trees had been attacked and killed over winter by the current epidemic of White Fir Beetles , I was heartsick. My favorite “Christmas trees” are so beautiful and sweet-smelling and having to have them all cut out was devastating. The cost for having it done was pretty devastating too.
