Cause of elderly woman's death in St. Joe wildfire area determined

WALLACE — The Shoshone County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO) reports that the 74- year old Emmett, Idaho woman who was found deceased in the St. Joe National Forest earlier last month died as a result of heat exhaustion and dehydration.

Homestead Project open house meeting scheduled

ST. MARIES – The USDA Forest Service has initiated the Homestead Project on the St. Joe Ranger District of the Idaho Panhandle National Forests. An open house has been scheduled to provide preliminary information to the public about the project on September 26, 2019 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. (PDT) in the conference room on the ground floor of the St. Maries Federal Building, 222 S. 7th Ave, St. Maries, ID.

Kit Price Campground closed for the 2018 season

COEUR D’ALENE – Idaho Panhandle National Forests has announced that the Kit Price Campground of the Coeur d’Alene River Ranger District will be closed for the 2018 camping season due to hazardous tress and concerns for public safety. Many of the large trees that tower over the site are infected with root diseases which makes them susceptible to other damaging agents, such as insects and other diseases. Trees infected with root diseases are prone to blowing over during wind events, creating hazards and significant safety concerns in developed recreation areas.

Avalanche awareness classes slated

The Flathead Avalanche Center will present a “special topics” avalanche safety program on Tuesday, Dec. 4, from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. at the Flathead National Forest Office, 650 Wolfpack Way, in Kalispell.
