A group of local Flathead County shelters, mental-health providers, churches, homeless teens and domestic violence organizations, law enforcement and other entities are working to secure a location to provide additional temporary shelter for homeless individuals during the coronavirus outbreak.

Seeking approval of a new development can often pit neighbors against developers and the decision maker, in this case the Whitefish City Council, can get caught in the challenging position of trying to balance competing interests. Land use decisions are rarely black and white, but when they include the principle of neighborliness, such decisions often become fairer and thus easier for all to find common ground on.

For all the doom and gloom predicted at the beginning of ski season, it sure did end on a celebratory note. Spring corn and sun ruled the slopes all weekend as locals gathered for a few last turns, last splashes and last laughs of a season that exceeded all expectations.
