Two-and-a-half miles from downtown Bigfork, well off the beaten path, a bright pop of teal stands out starkly from the drab, winter foliage. The azure structure is home to Kehoe’s Agate Shop, first established by former steamboat operator, Jack Kehoe in 1932. Customers say the remote location is part of the allure — visitors have to do a little treasure hunting of their own in order to find this literal gem of a place. But the journey is only the beginning. Inside the gabled entry is a rockhound’s paradise — part jewelry store, mineral exhibit and most prominently: a showcase of fossils, crystals and of course, their namesake stone, the agate.

Marge Reader passed away Oct 11, 2013 at the Hospice House in Coeur d'Alene. She was born june 2, 1933 in Memphis, Missouri to Oscar and Zelma North. The family moved to Blackfoot, Idaho where she grew up and attended school. As a teenager she worked at the local drugstore and movie theatre. Little did she know she would marry her first grade valentine, Mick Reader on Feb 14, 1952. they moved to Southgate, CA briefly, then back to Blackfoot. Later in 1960 they would settle in Riverside California. There she was active in her children's schools and worked part-time in a dress shop. They moved to Coeur d'Alene in 1969 after vacationing here. They bought a store-front, sight unseen and opened a neighborhood grocery. Meanwhile they also began a concrete construction business. Marge also attended NIC and earned her practical nurses license in the early 70's. She had worked for Dr. Tarnasky and Dr. Luce. She enjoyed spending summer weekends at the lake and they went to Yuma, Arizona for many winters. Mostly she loved to talk and laugh with her family and friends.

Mine will only make the pollution worse

The worst possible threat from protecting water quality in northern Idaho is Revett's proposed copper mine. They plan to dump 3 million gallons of toxic mine waste into the Clark Fork River daily. They planned tunnels under the Cabinet Mountain Wilderness Area plus the toxic goop holding pond will pollute the Clark Fork below with even more toxic mine waste. Doesn't the Clark Fork drain into the jewel of the Panhandle? Over 140 years, Montana's mining efforts, especially the Butte and Anaconda mines, dumped their worst of the worst toxic mine waste directly into the Clark Fork. Their abuse turned the river into one of the five worst ever. The outdated 1872 Mining Law wants more from the Clark Fork. Being one of the top worst polluted rivers in the United States has ever had folks make, it now wants to make it even worse. To heck with water quality concerns. I guess Revett would pay well. Why haven't people with hearts and moral good sense stopped the plans to harm the Clark Fork? Silence means "Go ahead, make the bad even worse."
