City will hold workshop on downtown parking
Not so long ago, anyone could find a parking place on Nucleus Avenue in Columbia Falls. A few years ago, one block was nothing but a storage space for a businessman who dealt in faux and real antiques.

Heritage Days lineup of events announced
5:30 p.m. Wildcat Athletic Endowment barbecue and auction at Marantette Park to support Columbia Falls High School Athletic programs. Barbecue is $5 per plate. Refillable beers at $15 a cup. Auction is both live and silent as well as raffles. A beer garden runs until 11 p.m. DJ Music by Music on the Move.

Ivan passed away peacefully just days after his 99th birthday. Ivan lived in Rathdrum, Idaho for 11 years, but Deer Lodge, Montana, where they lived for 58 years, was the place he always considered home.

HOUSING: Zoning system is adding to crisis
Kootenai County is in need of a significant increase in housing units to meet the current demand. Less than 20 percent of local households can afford to buy a home, and the majority of home sales come from nonresidents. According to a study by the Idaho Asset Building Network, since 1990, the state has gained 56,000 low to modest income households but only added 7,000 affordable housing units. This study also stated Idaho has a current deficit of 22,000 affordable housing units.

Neil Doten passed away on Jan. 8, 2019, at the age of 92. He was born on Dec. 6, 1926, to Roy and Alma Doten. He was raised in Solway, Minnesota, with his five siblings.
FVCC student earns esteemed academic award
Flathead Valley Community College student Isaac Neumann has been named a 2019 New Century Workforce Pathway Scholar. Neumann was selected for the esteemed award based on his academic accomplishments and leadership activities and how he extends his intellectual talents beyond the classroom.

Program focuses on impacts of climate change on recreation
The third program in an educational series focusing on climate change will look at what a warming world means for hunting, fishing and winter recreation during a multi-media event on Wednesday, Nov. 8 at 7 p.m. at the O’Shaughnessy Center.

The local members of the U.S. National Telemark Team would like to thank our community for their continued support. We're working to raise money so we can host the 2010 U.S. Telemark National Championships, which will be held at Whitefish Mountain Resort on March 18-21. Recently, a fundraiser was held at the Great Northern Bar and Grill.

Business owner supports Haskill easement
As a fellow resident and a downtown business owner, I strongly support the acquisition of a conservation easement in Haskill Basin to permanently protect our municipal water supply.
