The most common question

Wine is a subject that generates interest and passion for many of us, so it is predictable that whether it be here in the shop, via email, or just when we are out in public we get a lot of questions. While the questions asked span a wide range there is one question we are asked more than any other, "What do you drink?" Which may also be no big surprise is the toughest to answer.

Celebrating Maryhill

While many of you know of our weekly “work” tasting wine with winemakers, distributors, importers and others on our endless quest to find the best wines for our customers, from time to time we also receive packages of wine to review. We recently received a three-pack to taste and review from Maryhill Winery, one of the most prominent in neighboring Washington State. In reading through some of the press releases that accompanied my tasty three-pack, I learned that just this past weekend, the winery celebrated its 15th anniversary.

There is our oft noted whole big world of wine out there. While we all have our favorites those go to bottles that we like on a regular basis our fun has many times come when we challenge our own palates, this is when we find new favorites and also a chance to reinforce those varietals, producers, regions or vintages we are less fond of. For us and frankly every wine professional, we need to do this it is our job. For wine consumers though it is a good idea but clearly falls short of a requirement.

Winter recommendations

The calendar says February, despite the spring-like temperatures and rain all weekend. We will leave the unseasonable weather to Cliff Harris to let us know when it will end, but we will take care of recommending some great new wines we have found to take us through the shortened days and cool nights.
