FRANKFORT, Ky. — Saying “we shouldn’t want our kids to be the canaries in the coal mine,” Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear urged schools in the state to delay reopening in-person classes until late September to provide more time to curb the spread of the coronavirus.

We were in Coeur d’Alene visiting our daughter over the Christmas holiday. On Monday, Dec. 23, we ended up visiting a number of different grocery stores in search of specific ingredients for some special dishes we were preparing for Christmas Eve. We were so impressed by how pleasant everyone we encountered was — from the grocery store clerks to the other patrons in the stores. I’m sure everyone else was just as busy and pressed for time as we were, yet everyone was kind and considerate. What a nice community you all live in!
