Super-slow, high-intensity strength training in Riverstone
To kick things off with this column I recently visited Exercise Institute in Riverstone. As I stepped in the door it hit me how Exercise Institute is different from other exercise facilities. The entry area has more the feel of a doctor's waiting room than a gym with people sitting in comfortable chairs waiting to be called back. In fact, if you break out in hives at the mere thought of going to a sweaty gym with walls of mirrors, then this is the place for you. Looking around, the demographic also fits more with a doctor's waiting room as they definitely seem to cater to the over-40 crowd.
Yesterdays: Dump approved north of Columbia Falls
A new landfill north of the city was approved. It would be on 15 acres owned by the Anaconda Aluminum Co. The company would be able to use the site as well, but it wasn’t expected to, since it had plenty of other places to dump its waste.

In as much as: Serving 'the least of these' in Mexico
What does a cement block and 20 people have in common? Both were committed to providing basic shelter to a family in desperate need. On a recent mission trip to Mexico I met with 20 people from Indiana and Virginia, current or former members of the Southport Presbyterian Church just outside Indianapolis. Yearly, they travel to Reynosa, Mexico and build a basic block house for a family selected by Faith Ministry in McAllen, Texas, just across the border.
Warmer temps a relief after round of snowstorms
Mineral County residents are breathing a sigh of relief and hope the last storms of the winter season have swept through the county with temperatures predicted to top 50 degrees this week. A welcome relief after western Montana was pounded with several more inches of snow last week. On Thursday, March 9, residents awoke to another six to eight inches of snow, after receiving around four inches last Wednesday.

On May 20, I paid my first visit to our beautiful brand new Super 1 Foods store and was most impressed with this new addition to Whitefish's shopping option.
And then I noticed that there was not an American flag in sight anywhere. Curious about this, I sought out one of the store's senior executives to ask about this obvious "oversight."

The holiday shopping season started as a marathon, not a sprint.
Thoughts on CFAC
As expected, the draft feasibility study for the cleanup of the former aluminum smelter site near Columbia Falls, Montana, calls for leaving hazardous materials on the property even though potliner contaminated with cyanide was required to be hauled away to an approved out-of-state hazardous waste landfill when the plant was operating.
