SANDPOINT — Watching 18 year-old Victor Gawel and 15 year-old Joseph DeCecchis flying high through the air to deliver snapping roundhouse kicks — think Chuck Norris or Jackie Chan — during a recent session at Sandpoint Taekwondo, it’s easy to see why they’ll each be testing for black belts at the end of the month.

Inland Northwest Opera (INO) is offering a free performance today at 1 p.m. at the Coeur d’Alene Public Library. Seymour Barab’s “The Toy Shop,” directed by Maria Caprile, is a charming fable about a toymaker and two of his mechanical dolls who wish they were real, while a troublesome magician wishes to steal them from the shop. With songs including “If Only I Could Cry, How Happy I Would Be” and “Love is the Key,” they uncover the magic of life. Casting includes opera students from the University of Idaho and Eastern Washington University.
