More snow needed to improve summer’s water outlook

While February moisture boosted snowpack levels across the state, March didn’t help much – except in southwest and southern parts of the state. However, recent rains have boosted precipitation in the Flathead basin, dumping 153% of the 1991-2020 average precipitation for the first week of April. The upper and lower Clark Fork basins also received significant boosts, and the Kootenai was at 91% for the first week.

The increase will go into effect Nov. 1. The increases will be minor – 68 cents per month for 48-gallon residential garbage can, and $1.11 per month for a 96-gallon garbage can. A commercial 96-gallon garbage can dumped two times per week will increase by $1.54 per month. But city officials warned that price increases may be coming that are outside the city's control.

Oil boom brings scarcity of workers in small towns

WOODWARD, Okla. - The local prison is so short on guards that inmates can sometimes just walk away. A gas station barely has enough cashiers to keep up with the trucks filling the parking lot. And "help wanted" signs seem to hang from every restaurant and shop.
