You know about scammers, but also beware of skimmers
Two incidents of credit card skimming were recently reported in North Idaho. The skimming machines were placed on gas pumps at local food stores. Luckily, a couple of sharp consumers caught the scam. They just happened to check their balances online and caught two big unauthorized charges, right after using local gas pumps.
Under pressure, gross meals might emerge
One of the latest culinary fades is the use of pressure cookers. Fifty years ago, pressure cookers were replaced by microwave ovens. Now the circle is complete: The marrying of pressure cooking and computers has given rise to the electric, computerized pressure cooker, complete with touch screen controls and pre-programmed settings.
Withstanding Category 4 scams
The strong winds from the hurricanes have definitely blown devastation through the Carolinas and Florida, but they’ve also blown in charity scammers, too. These new scams claim to seek relief for the victims but we as givers need to do some research to make sure we’re helping the victims and not just giving our money away to scammers.

OLYMPIA — The Washington Legislature has approved revisions to state law that will make it easier for law enforcement officers and firefighters in one tier of the state’s retirement system to use time they spent on authorized leave toward their retirement, regardless of whether they returned to work.
OPINION: Lawsuit filed to prevent subsidizing private/religious education
A lawsuit to prevent taxpayer money from being used to pay for private and religious education is now before the Idaho Supreme Court. A dedicated coalition of public school supporters filed the suit on September 17, asking the Court to declare Idaho’s voucher subsidy law unconstitutional. They are also asking the Court to prevent the Idaho State Tax Commission from implementing and administering the law.
