Time to get involved in 'Operation Clothe A Child'
For the past few years, the Salvation Army Kroc Center's "Operation Clothe A Child" has given local children a chance to shop with volunteers. While it has been a success at providing students with warm clothes and support, it's time for a change. “This year, we made a critical shift,” said Hannah Haakenson, the Kroc Center’s programming Youth development manager. “Rather than asking parents and guardians to drop their kids off, we asked them to come participate in the event with their kids.”

This year’s gift of $10,000, which matches the amount the Coeur d’Alene Elks contributed last year, launches the effort toward a 2022 Christmas for All goal of $225,000. It’s an ambitious goal, but an achievable one, based on the incredible success of last year's program when, thanks to our generous readers' donations, Christmas for All raised a whopping $238,000.

County approves ARPA money use
Bonner County commissioners approved the use of $150,000 of ARPA funding at Tuesday’s business meeting to cover medical insurance costs. The vote came after county Comptroller Nancy Twineham brought a request to transfer American Rescue Plan Act funds to the county’s self-insured medical fund. The medical fund has run into a deficit due to ongoing claims, she told commissioners.
