Business Bits

This weekend I'm visiting brother-in-law Rob Stark in Bozeman, Mont. I usually manage to visit Rob when an athletic event is happening on the Montana State University campus, from which his place is across the street and he was the track coach. I go on a rockhounding expedition, have good meals out and visit other friends. It's also Rob's 60th birthday.

OPINION: A dirty story about recycling

We all like to think that we are doing our part to help the environment. We sort our trash into plastic, cardboard, aluminum, rinse it out and dump it into the big blue bin in our alleyway or backyard. When trash day comes, we know that the material we put in the bin will be taken by a different truck (it's blue!) than the trash truck (it's green!) to a place where it is sorted and then sent to a factory where it is made into something new; out of sight out of mind. What a great feeling that is.

Panida's Little Theater finds home in history-rich building

Recently, I saw a photo of a parade on First Avenue in Sandpoint and in the background I could see the Panida Theater and the Kamloops Bar & Grill. They stood side by side proudly displaying their numbers, 300 and 302 North First Avenue. Though close, the two buildings have experienced some distinct differences over the years. It could be that 302, being 19 years older than 300, explains the difference in lifestyles. At the time the photo was shot, no one would have thought that someday the two would become one.
