Gwen Jenson of Othello makes the honor roll at SFCC

SPOKANE – Gwen Jenson, of Othello, Washington, has earned a place on the Spokane Falls Community College honor roll for Winter quarter 2024, according to an announcement from SFCC. According to the statement, students must earn a GPA of 3.0 or higher to be on the honor roll. Community Colleges of Spokane is a 12,300-square-mile state community college district that includes Spokane Community College, Spokane Falls Community College and six rural education sites, serving residents in Pend Oreille, Stevens, Whitman, Ferry and parts of Lincoln counties, the statement said. According to the announcement, CCS offers academic transfer, career-technical and eLearning degree and certificate programs, business and community training and adult literacy programs throughout northeastern Washington, enrolling approximately 34,000 students a year.

Garbage education key to solving problem

On June 29, was a meeting at the Blue Lake Community Hall to discuss the closure of the dumpsters on Peninsula Road near the Green Owl Tavern. Illegal dumping is the cause behind the County's consideration of the removal of the entire dumpster site. The illegal dumping of furniture, large appliances, construction waste and non-household items. The County Waste Management said that dumping of none household items has become a financial problem and their solution is to close the Green Owl site as well as Wrenco Loop and Laclede sites.

Lions fall out of 1B tourney with loss to Orcas Island

SPOKANE – The MLCA/CCS Lions weren’t able to overcome a slow start in the first half of Friday’s consolation semifinal round of the 1B Boys State Basketball Tournament, falling 67-39 to Orcas Island. The lid on the top of the basket closed for the Lions in the first quarter, as they were unable to put points on the board for the first nine minutes and 46 seconds of game time.

Local robotics team places first

Christian Center School’s Robotics Team participated last weekend, for the first time, in a FIRST LEGO League Tournament. The CCS team took first place in the Robot Game portion of the competition held in Bonners Ferry, earning the team the Robot Performance Trophy.

City of Moses Lake Notice of Application, Public Hearing and Optional DNS Mike Suhling submitted an application on January 8, 2019 to install a 192 square foot dock (8' x24') extension to an existing 160 square foot dock (8' x 20'). Existing dock and gangway were approved by exemption in 2018. The water is shallow in this area and no other impacts are identified to the shoreline. The property is located at 1212 Eastlake Drive, Moses Lake, WA. The application was determined to be complete and ready for review on February 8, 2019. The project has been determined to be consistent with the City's Comprehensive Plan, and the following development regulations are applicable to the project: Moses Lake Municipal Code (MLMC) Title 14: Environmental Regulations, Title 16: Building & Construction, Title 18: Zoning. Environmental review is required for this project. The City of Moses Lake has reviewed the proposed project for probable adverse environmental impacts and expects to issue a Determination of Non-Significance (DNS) for this project. The optional DNS process in WAC 197-11-355 is being used. This may be your only opportunity to comment on the environmental impacts of the proposed project. No adverse environmental impacts have been identified, so no mitigating conditions have been identified as necessary through SEPA. The project review process may include additional mitigation measures under applicable codes. Libby students on cleanup patrol

Libby Elementary School students and staff spent part of their Wednesday cleaning up their community as a show of appreciation to Libby and its residents. Students fanned out around town to pick up garbage, while third-graders also assembled a rock garden in front of the school. Organizers said the activity, which they hope will become an annual event, was intended to promote citizenship and instill in students a sense of pride in and respect for Libby. Change for a Dollar, a group from Libby Christian Church, rewarded students by giving each one a free ice cream cone from either CC’s Ice Cream Shop or Billy Goat Ice Cream at Burger Express.
