LETTER: U.S. can't just provide for everyone

Last month American scientist Richard Heck died outside of a Manila hospital. He was 88 years old and had won the Nobel Prize for chemistry in 2010. On Oct. 9, outside of the Manila hospital, being deathly sick and confused, he failed to carry a credit card or any cash to pay entry and receive medical care. Like many he was denied emergency entry. He literally died outside the hospital doors, as he vomited to death.

Would you support those who lie to you?

Would you knowingly support an entity after they repeatedly lie to you?  As members of Congress scramble to get themselves re-elected, they like to take credit for all sorts of accomplishments to get your vote. By far the best of these lies is the fact that the recession has been squelched for over a year now, thanks to the great job they’ve done.  Let’s review some of their other achievements while we decide if we should vote for them again.

Just say no to more property tax levies

We have a deep and forecasted long recession; global financial crisis not seen since Great Depression. Government bailouts, economic stimulus packages. Veterans' Day events honor all contributions

I want to thank those associated with the Sandpoint High School for the beautiful Veteran's Day service conducted on Nov. 8. The annual program is open to the public and a credit to the community. Suggesting that all wars have an equal moral cause or the contribution of all veterans is equal would be nonsense but the objective of the high school was to treat all veterans with equal dignity. The goal was appreciated.
