There’s a way to get rid of them safely at no charge. “It’s estimated that 10 percent of paint goes unused each year,” said Lauren Scher, Washington and Oregon Program Manager for PaintCare, a nonprofit organization that operates paint recycling centers nationwide. “So, rather than having it sit around in your garage or your farm or your barn, take it to a drop-off site.”
