Trends

Every year around this time Mary heads off to the market to find the latest in merchandise for the shop for the coming spring and summer season. Every few years she goes to the market in New York, widely regarded as one of the best show in the States, and periodically I tag along. This year I did help "shop" some at the show, but my real purpose is to go back and meet with some customers, but also it is a great opportunity to see new trends in the wine world.

CHRISTMAS: Keep it joyous in Cd'A

What has happened to Coeur d’Alene, Idaho? My husband and I moved here with our young family in 1970. It was a wonderful town with kind and caring people. At Christmas time we would go through the stores as we did our shopping and admire all the beautiful decorations. “Merry Christmas” was displayed in every window. People were happy and excited about Christmas. Our children grew up with an understanding that Christmas was truly a magical time of year.

What’s next for your dress?

There are many options to consider on the day after your wedding

You've shopped for the gown, been fitted and refitted, then gotten married in it. But there’s still one big decision to make. Some brides choose to carefully store their gown in order to preserve it as something to hand down to future generations, or even simply as a heartfelt memento. Others choose to resell or donate the dress so that someone else can enjoy it on their own big day. Which is right for you? Consider these crucial questions. LONG-TERM STORAGE Storage is an option for those with an intent to one day pass along the dress to a daughter or other family member. You may also be the sentimental type who’d like to have it as a keepsake. If so, you can’t simply tuck the gown away in the back of the closet, much less in your damp and musty attic or basement. You’ll need to first get a garment professional to properly clean and store the dress for future use. They also recommend special storage bags or compartments. This will extend the life of the gown, while making sure it doesn’t become faded, infested or frayed – mishaps that can happen even during a short amount of time in storage.

WEB EXTRA DTV conversion update

The DTV converter or set-top box program has been challenged by a much larger than expected demand for $40 coupons.  Until some previously issued coupons expire, no more money is available to fund more coupons.  Applicants are being told they will be put in queue to await more funds.  If Congress decides to make funding available, the bottleneck may disappear.  We should know fairly soon if the U.S. Congress is going to allocate more money to the digital transition.  Also, it appears a bill to extend the analog cutoff to June 12 may pass. This date will be optional, so many stations will choose to cut off analog in February as operational cost for two transmitters can be high.  As has been reported, many translators and other low-power TV stations were not required to cease operation on Feb 17 and most will continue for some time. . .
