The return of Montana's copper collar

Mark Twain is credited with saying, “History does not repeat itself, but it often rhymes.” And so it is with SB 331, which is winding its way through the Legislature. This bill authorizes NorthWestern Energy to buy more interest in old coal plants and automatically pass the costs, plus profit margin, onto their customers without review by the Public Service Commission. It also puts ratepayers on the hook for more of the decommissioning and cleanup costs in the future.

Purple reign finished by Frenchtown

BELGRADE — With an unprecedented fourth-straight Class A state title hanging in the balance, the Polson Lady Pirates softball team came just short of making history this weekend, falling 2-1 in a heartbreaking extra-innings championship game loss to archrival Frenchtown.

Not everyone in Bigfork is Republican. I'm a Vietnam vet and I'm voting for Kerry. He served in Vietnam, not like Bush and Cheney. Kerry fought for his right to speak out. We need a reasonable man for President, not an ideologue. Under Bush we pay 90 percent of the cost of a questionable war. In the first Iraq war we paid 10 percent because we had a real coalition with us.

Republican convention rife with inaccuracies and lies

I admit I am not surprised, just once again disappointed by the Daily Inter Lake’s blatant support of all things Republican or right-wing.  The latest example is last Sunday’s editorial on the Republican convention.  The convention was rife with speeches filled with inaccuracies, exaggerations and lies: Vice Presidential nominee Paul Ryan’s speech perhaps the most notable. Was it too difficult to do a little research to write an informative and valuable editorial or is providing a bit of professional journalism just too daunting for the Inter Lake?

Double taxation and the fiscal cliff

There’s no get-out-of-jail-free card for America’s small business owners — when times are tight, they have to find new ways to stretch their resources in order to keep their doors open and stay competitive. Which is why it’s so disappointing to see how our leadership in Washington is handling our current financial situation.
