Geneva Gauff passed away April 6, 2013 surrounded by family and loved ones at the Moses Lake Senior Living. She was born January 23, 1925 in Whitewright, TX. She was the fifth of seven children born to Robert and Inis Hopper. She graduated from Lorenzo High School in 1941 in Lorenzo, TX. Geneva worked in Keyport Naval Torpedo Station-Machine Shop in Keyport, WA. from 1944-1945. She later went to Lee's Beauty shops in the Seattle area until she moved to Moses Lake and opened the House of Genii in 1955. Geneva loved spending time with her children at their cabin on the Entiat River, fishing, gardening, traveling, and visiting with her many clients and friends.

Marsha A. Koba

Longtime Soap Lake resident and Ephrata pharmacist, Marsha A. Koba, passed away March 20, 2014 at Central Washington Hospital. She was born December 4, 1950 in Moses Lake, Washington to Frank and Miyo Koba. She was raised in Moses Lake and graduated from Moses Lake High School in 1969. Marsha earned a Bachelor of Pharmacy degree from Washington State University in 1974 and went to work for Jack Potter at Potter Drug in Othello, Washington. Shortly after that, she moved to the Potter Drug in Ephrata and stayed there until the store's closure. Most recently, she was employed by Rite Aid. During her forty years as a pharmacist, Marsha enjoyed getting to know her customers and taking care of them. She made long lasting friendships through her work which she dearly loved. Her favorite pastimes were cooking for her many friends and co-workers and shopping. Marsha is survived by her mother, Miyo Koba of Moses Lake; brothers Rick (Kathy) Koba of Moses Lake and Doug (Jeanne) Koba of Phoenix, AZ; nieces Kalin (Joel) Armstrong of Spokane and Alexa Koba of Phoenix; and nephew Taylor Koba of Phoenix. She was preceded in death by her father, Frank Koba. Marsha will be greatly missed by her family and many friends.

Jo Ellen M. Prosser, 66

Jo Ellen M. Prosser, age 66, resident of Post Falls, died at home surrounded by family after a four-year battle with cancer. She was born May 1, 1944, in Spokane, to Joseph A. and Hazel (Walter) Meyers. Jo Ellen married Denny Prosser on March 20, 1964, at Ft. Leonard Wood, Mo., while Denny was in the U.S. Army. They lived most of their lives in North Idaho except a few years when Denny managed the Albertsons store in Yakima. Jo Ellen was a member of St. Thomas Catholic Church, in Coeur d'Alene. She enjoyed spending time at her brother's cabin on the St. Joe River, the Oregon coast, shopping and was her favorite things were "Diamonds, Cadillac's and Cash." Jo Ellen worked as a receptionist for several local doctors over the years, the last being the medical practice of doctor's Benson, Lickey and Lindquist.

Bobbie Gene Kelly, 51

After a courageous battle with cancer, Bobbie Gene Kelly passed away on Saturday, Oct. 23, 2010. Bobbie was born Jan. 20, 1959, to Lila Rae and Bobby Willson in Blyth, Calif. At the age of 9, Bobbie s family moved to Midland, Texas, where she spent the remainder of her childhood. On Aug. 17, 1996, Bobbie married the love of her life, Thomas Leroy Kelly. The day after they were wed, Bobbie and Tom moved to the Flathead Valley to begin their life together. At the time of her diagnosis, Bobbie worked as the director for the Retired Senior Volunteer Program, RSVP. She continued to work from home until earlier this year when her illness forced her to retire. Bobbie s free time was most often spent cooking and entertaining numerous friends and family, learning to play the piano, restoring antique furniture, gardening and always poking her head into quaint little thrift shops and second-hand stores. Bobbie was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Thomas Kelly; and her parents, Lila Rae and Bobby Wilson. Bobbie is survived by her two sons, Mike and John, of Creston; and daughter, Jodi, of Eatonville, Wash.; her brother, Terry Wilson, of Springerville, Ariz.; and sister, Patsy Lu Wilson, of Saint Angelo, Calif.; as well as many adopted children, aunts, uncles and countless friends. Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 30, at Landmark Worship Center, located at 1765 Highway 35 East, Kalispell. Condolences may be sent to 500 O Bryan Lane, Kalispell.

Heather Scott has my vote

In these last few days, I’ve seen a remarkable ratcheting up of nasty attacks against Heather Scott, our state representative in District 1. Here are some things about Heather you won’t see articles about or see full-color ads about, but they sure deserve to be brought forth. Heather truly cares for people. She has a special place in her heart for the elderly. I watched as she would go to the grocery store for an elderly neighbor every few days, take the groceries to her, and then sit and talk for a while. Even when she had a busy schedule, she would help this neighbor get her bills in order and assist her as much as she could. When a young veteran, just returned from combat duty in the Middle East, came to her yard sale looking for a bed, she gave him the one she had for sale – free. Recently, when a friend’s family was in need of firewood, she checked around and found more than a cord of wood – free – that someone was willing to donate. The God’s Provisions Thrift Shop in Priest River is a bigger and nicer-looking place because Heather and her husband made it a project to add on to it and improve it. Heather doesn’t just talk the talk of a true Christian, she walks the walk. She has a Godly heart, and she has my vote.

No matter the weather, Ruth Neff can often be found working outside the Whitefish Soroptimist’s Thrift Haus store. Neff, who volunteers for the Soroptimist International of Whitefish even though she is not a member of the group, sorts, organizes and prices the large items that are for sale in front of the shop.
