Boy rescued after canoe capsizes

A man and a 10-year-old boy canoeing on the Flathead River near Lybecks Dike capsized Wednesday evening. The boy made it to the bank himself, but it was the bank opposite authorities. Rescue personnel from the Evergreen Fire Department crossed the river and fetched him back before the search and rescue team even arrived. No one was injured.

At 25, Patrick Deneen, Jr. of Cle Elum has been the top American Freestyle skier for the last six years. Ranked number three in the world last year, Patrick is now preparing for the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia. Freestyle skiing is a timed event on a very steep slope that includes moguls and aerials, in which competitors are also judged on form. Although it looks like a skiing accident in the making. it is a ballet of graceful aggression done on snow while wearing skis.

Democratic candidate for U.S. Congress Kathleen Williams made a stop in Superior on March 15 to talk about issues facing Montana voters. Six locals gathered around a table at Durango’s restaurant and shared a cup of coffee with her and told her what was on their minds with discussions ranging from gun control to wilderness areas. Diane Magone, who is running as a Democrat in the House District 14 race, helped to organize the event.

Group of ruffians loose in downtown Kalispell

Kalispell Police were unable to locate a group of kids in downtown Kalispell who reportedly were trying to fight with strangers. A downtown business employee approached the youths before calling and the apparent leader, described as wearing a bandanna and a tank top, swung at the caller. Another person called about the same rowdy group, which apparently had chased the second caller for a few blocks. Neither caller wished to pursue charges after police were unable to locate the hooligans.
