MLCA/CCS baseball falls to Waterville-Mansfield

MOSES LAKE — Moses Lake Christian Academy/Covenant Christian School senior Jacob Robertson makes it safely to second base, surrounded by Waterville-Mansfield opponents on Saturday. The MLCA/CCSbaseball team took a tough loss on Saturday to Waterville-Mansfield. The MLCA/CCS Lions lost 27-7. This was their last league game of the season. Their overall record is 7-7. This was the first baseball season for their program in five years.

Conrad Leroy Stephens

Conrad went to his eternal home on the morning of November 5, 2011. He died peacefully at home after having a great week with his children. Conrad was born on March 5, 1921 at Elizabeth, Arkansas to Henry and Violet Stephens. He attended schools in Elizabeth, served in the CC camps in southern Arkansas for 2 years, where he continued his education. He left the CC camps to work with his Dad and brothers in sawmills in Elizabeth. He married his sweetheart of 3 months, Nora Mae McCormack of Melbourne, Arkansas, on January 25, 1941. He joined the Navy during World War II in 1945. He was medically discharged that same year due to a heart murmer which would follow him allthe rest of his life. Their first child was born in Arkansas. Work brought them to Washington, then to California where their second son was born, then back to Washington where their daughter was born. Conrad worked in the Okanogan Valley for a number of years in the fruit and lumber businesses. He operated service stations in Spokane and Othello and then worked as a heavy equipment operator until his retirement. He spent his life serving the Lord and was currently an active member of the Church of Christ in Ephrata, WA. In his earlier years he enjoyed working with youth groups, and has served as an Elder and Deacon in the Church of Christ in Spokane and Othello. His passion was his family and felt blessed with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren to whom he cheerfully referred to himself as "Grandpa the Great".

MOSES LAKE — Battling foul trouble and injuries, the MLCA/CCS Lions eked out a 62-60 victory over Entiat on Friday, locking up a Senior Night win, their first win in their new gym and a league championship in the process. Head Coach Emerson Ferguson said the first two goals for this season were to win 10 games and win the Central Washington 1B title. Now, they’re on to districts as the No. 1 seed.

SPOKANE – The No. 3 seed MLCA/CCS Lions responded to Thursday’s quarterfinal loss in the 1B Boys State Basketball Tournament by defeating No. 16 Columbia Adventist 62-42 Friday morning, reaching a placement game for the second time in the last three seasons. MLCA/CCS held the Kodiaks to 11 points in the first half, a stark contrast to the team’s performance against No. 5 Neah Bay in the quarterfinals.

WENATCHEE – Turnovers proved costly for the Moses Lake Christian Academy/Covenant Christian School girls basketball team on Friday night in Wenatchee, falling 51-38 to Waterville-Mansfield in the Central Washington 1B district finals. After being tied at five entering the second quarter, the Lions found themselves down 25-10 at halftime. MLCA/CCS Head Coach Josh Kast said the team had 15 turnovers in the first half.

ERP hosts motocross under the lights

EPHRATA - For the first time in Ephrata Raceway Park's history, motocross riders attacked the woops and berms under the bright lights. Race fans witnessed rooster tails and big air from the more experienced riders Saturday. However, the beginners, some as young as 4 years old, also drew applause from the crowd. Riders on motorcycles and quads from throughout the Columbia Basin took part in dirt spewing action.
