We at the Flathead Area Secular Humanist Association are concerned and somewhat defensive about a recent opinion letter (March 31) titled “Violence a natural result of nation without God” by Mr. Young.
Based on several opinion articles and comments on various websites, it appears that there is quite a bit of misinformation (and hostility) regarding why atheists/secular humanists are opposed to Ten Commandments monuments, religious shrines, etc. on public land.
It has often been reported that the “Jesus shrine” on the Big Mountain was intended as a war memorial for WWII veterans who lost their lives. This turns out not to be the case at all.
