An important human resource surrounds us. It’s the aging. Here’s Montana law: “Older Montanans constitute a valuable resource of this state and... their competence, experience and wisdom must be used more effectively for the benefit of all Montanans.”

Our governor, in his zeal to leave a legacy before turning in his Helena parking permit, is single-handedly creating more growth in state government. He strategically waited until legislators left for good then drafted a bid request for a new health clinic to serve 11,000 Montana state workers and families …

Something just happened to renew my faith in common sense and reduced government interference in our lives. The Supreme court ruled in favor of private landowners who pushed back – at great personal expense – the Environmental Protection Agency on a dispute over a “wetland.”
Imagine a field trip through four 20th century wars, personal contact with veterans of each, all in one very appealing place near our own neighborhood. I had that privilege last Sunday, joining a van load of local veterans on a tour of the Montana Veterans Home in Columbia Falls. We …

Sunday’s Missoulian reported that our state budget surplus may hit $426 million by the middle of next year thanks to better-than-expected collections from your income taxes, corporate fees, oil and gas production and insurance taxes. The Montana Taxpayer’s Association has been around since Joseph Dixon was Governor. In 1921, Montana’s total revenue was around $3 million, but the state went a million in the red. “Montax” was formed, and has worked ever since as a nonpartisan resource for tax and government spending information.

We narrowly avoided invasion... the dreaded quagga mussel would have staked a claim in Flathead Lake had the FWP not intercepted it at Dayton last week. Folks are thanking us for funding invasive aquatic species prevention. This week’s news proves it’s needed. Verdell Jackson’s bill budgets $333,500 for two years’ …

The highlight of my week was meeting a large group of local Republican women and their spouses who travelled to the Capitol to observe us at work. They hosted a dinner and sack lunch for us and sat through committee meetings and House and Senate sessions. I really appreciate your …
