Obama's change is the wrong kind
Kenneth Harris | Hagadone News Network | UPDATED 16 years AGO
Back in 2008, when Mr. Obama ran for the U.S. Presidency, I wasn't sure that I believed everything he said and doubted even more that he could deliver on his promises as most politicians rarely do. Mr. Obama has proven me wrong with the passage of the HEALTH CARE REFORM ACT. He promised us that we were only months away from fundamentally changing America, and he has kept his word. My hat is off to Mr. Obama.
Wow!!!! I can truly say I am a believer now.

Mr. Obama (along with Ms. Nancy "we have to pass the bill first to see what's in it" Pelosi, Mr. Harry "why can't we all just get along" Reid, and the Kool-Aid drinking Congress) has now delivered on one of his promises. The catch, and there is always a catch, is that together they have conspired, manipulated, bribed, lied and threatened unapologetically to get this done.
They have rammed down the throats of the American people this Heath Care Reform Act turd, called it a Baby Ruth candy bar and at the same time reached into the pockets and bank accounts of our children, grandchildren and their children to steal their inheritance and their future knowing full well they will never be able to pay for this monstrosity and have anything left over to even survive. Long after these ideologues are dead and rotting in their graves our future generations will have to deal with this stinking mess.
There is an anecdote I often tell my children and it goes like this: "If a man has an elephant and decides to call the elephant's trunk a leg, how many legs would the elephant then have? Shouldn't the elephant have five legs? Of course not!!!!! An elephant only has four legs. Just because you call something by a different name doesn't change what it is."
Like the elephant's trunk, this Reform Act is not what they call it, but it is in fact just another government takeover in a long line of takeovers in the past few months. This is no more Health Care Reform than the elephant's trunk is a leg.
We really do need Health Care Reform but not this, and especially not the way this was done. This is just another puzzle piece that Mr. Obama has put into place as he fundamentally changes America. America is changing all right, at times I hardly recognize it.
When I see the chaos Europe is experiencing, I fear for my children, grandchildren and their children as it is apparent that our leaders are hell bent on taking our country in that same direction, and getting us there as fast as they can.
Fear, however, can be a great motivator. It can empower us to do things we thought impossible, things like "voting the Bums out." Things like repealing laws that stink, things like voting men and women of integrity into political office to replace the clowns that are in there now, things like moving this country back toward the Godly principles upon which it was founded, and even things like writing this letter to the Coeur d'Alene Press.
I'll shut up for now, but I promise you I will be heard this coming November, and I hope all you folks out there who care about this country will make your voices heard as we make good on a promise to take back this country from those who would fundamentally change it - change it for the worst.
P.S. I do not believe Mr. Obama is the Anti-Christ as has been inferred in another opinion letter.
Without getting into a deep eschatological debate I will simply say that Mr. Obama does not meet any of the basic criteria that the Anti-Christ will have to meet.
First of all, Mr. Obama lacks the intelligence. He also lacks the oratory skills; any run-of-the-mill Pentecostal preacher can out speak Mr. Obama any day of the week and never need a TelePrompTer.
Lastly, the Anti-Christ will appear to be the real Christ and deceive many, whereas Mr. Obama has shown his true colors and no one is deceived. Ergo, Mr. Obama is not and cannot be the Anti-Christ. Isn't that a relief?

Hey Avista: Ethics are priceless
It is my turn. I just finished reading the article on the salaries and bonuses paid to the top people at Avista. In the article a certain Jessie Wuerst, a spokeswoman for Avista, reassured all of us ordinary rate paying customers that "less than one cent out of every dollar we pay in rates goes to the salaries of the top 13 officers of the company." Wuerst went on to say that it really is the cost of energy that drives the salaries upward.
