When statistics are one in eight—of anything—the odds are high. Picture a gathering, perhaps a basketball game, a church service, a school graduation, a concert, or a community play, then pick one woman out of every eight women.

That little exercise brings home why it is so important for women to have regular mammograms. One in eight women will have breast cancer in their lifetime.

Today, with the advancement of digital mammography, even the tiniest abnormalities show in the digital picture. Then, after a potential problem is spotted, the radiologist can investigate further with an ultrasound or other forms of testing.

Early detection is the key to fight cancer.

Boundary Community Hospital urges women to come for a mammogram screening. Now, is the perfect time to call for a screening. The cost of a mammogram is 25 percent off now through Nov. 15.

Mayor Dave Anderson has declared Wednesday, Oct. 30, Breast Cancer Awareness Day.

He will announce a mayoral proclamation at noon at the Georgia Mae Plaza, downtown Bonners Ferry.

Everyone is encouraged to attend and wear pink in solidarity of the fight against Breast Cancer. The entire ceremony will last only a few minutes. Afterwards order a free coffee, ebreastspresso, or hot chocolate at the restaurant of your choice.
