SPOKANE - Senior Devin Kluss scored a game-high 19 points for the Coeur d'Alene Vikings, which lost in their season opener to the host Shadle Park Highlanders 62-60 on Thursday.
"It was a great game," Coeur d'Alene coach Kurt Lundblad said. "Both teams played well and there was a lot of lead changes. We got a good look at the end, didn't knock it down, but that's basketball."
N'Keil Nelson scored 13 points for Shadle Park, which outscored Coeur d'Alene 13-6 in the third quarter to take a 44-38 lead.
"It was kind of a sluggish third for us and we gave them some of the points back," Lundblad said. "That's why we've got Shadle and Central Valley on the schedule. Our kids fought until the end, but made some mental mistakes on the road against a good team. They made some shots at the end and we didn't."
Joey Naccarato had 10 points and 10 rebounds and Tony Naccarato had 10 points and eight rebounds for Coeur d'Alene, which visits Central Valley tonight at 6.
