PREP BOYS BASKETBALL: Gibson, Sieler helps 'Jacks topple Gar-Pal

ST. MARIES — Kiefer Gibson had 14 points and seven rebounds and Jake Sieler added 13 points, six steals and five assists for the St. Maries Lumberjacks in a 49-47 nonleague win against the Garfield-Palouse Vikings on Tuesday night.

“It was probably our best game of the year,” St. Maries coach Bryan Chase said. “Our intensity and focus was a lot better tonight. We knew it was going to be an evenly-matched game.”

Dakota Wilson had five points and four assists for St. Maries (10-1), which plays at Grangeville on Saturday.

Matt Holbrick scored 11 points for Garfield Palouse (11-2).

“We focused our defense on him and Dakota did an awesome job on him tonight,” Chase said. “He made him earn every shot he took tonight.”

LEWISTON — Junior guard Kenny Louie-McGee scored 19 points, but a 19-4 run in the second quarter by the Bengals was the difference in the Timberwolves’ loss in 5A Inland Empire League play at Booth Hall.

“The second quarter was the story of the game,” Lake City assistant coach Kelly Reed said. “Offensively, we didn’t execute at all. We had a couple of turnovers in a row. Overall we played really well defensively. We are still struggling to put four quarters together.”

Trystan Bradley finished with 19 points and six rebounds for the Bengals (7-5, 1-0).

Lake City (3-10, 0-2) plays at Coeur d’Alene on Friday in the Fight for the Fish game.

RATHDRUM — Toby Colburn scored 16 points and the visiting Wildcats opened the fourth quarter with a 9-0 run to open up some breathing room in the nonleague win over the Hawks at Hawk Court.

Colburn scored 12 of his points in the fourth quarter for Kellogg (7-3), which visits Bonners Ferry on Saturday.

“We were inconsistent,” Lakeland assistant coach Bill Ryan said. “But they are very quick, they handle the ball well, play very well together.”

Kaden Davis hit four 3-pointers for Lakeland (4-9), including back-to-back 3s in the fourth as the Hawks attempted to come back.

Forest Zubaly added 13 points for Lakeland, which travels to Moscow on Thursday in 4A Inland Empire League play.

SPIRIT LAKE — Davan Norris scored 15 of his 21 points in the second half as the visiting Bulldogs (3-9) beat the Tigers in nonleague play.

Norris made two 3-pointers in the first half, then scored 11 points in the fourth quarter, hitting 7 of 8 free throws.

“We went out to contest his shots, and he did a good job of getting by us to the hoop,” Timberlake coach Tony Hanna said.

Brayden Menti scored 11 points, Daniel Smith 10 for Timberlake (4-7), which travels to Priest River on Saturday for the Battle of the Buck spirit games.

COEUR d’ALENE — Caleb Harrington scored 28 points as the visiting Badgers (4-7) beat the Panthers in nonleague play at Holy Family Catholic School.

“He was a beast down low; he was unstoppable,” Charter coach Jarrod Womack said. “We just don’t have the bodies (to match up inside). But we played one of the best teams we’ve probably played this season, and we hung with them.”

Charles Follini scored 14 points for Coeur d’Alene Charter (1-8). Jeffrey Kersh added 13, Nick Judd 12 and Jacob Rutherford 10.

Coeur d’Alene Charter travels to Lakeside on Thursday.

PLUMMER — A tough first half in which the Knights trailed 35-19 at halftime was all Logos needed in a nonleague win at Ron Miller Court.

“We basically have a brand-new lineup,” Lakeside coach Butch Nomee said. “Everyone’s trying to get used to each other, we’re a pretty young team with callups from the JV team. Defensively we did well, but offensively we struggled. But the effort from the boys was excellent.”

Bryar Sanchez scored 10 points to pace the Knights (1-9). Trey Wienclaw added six points and five rebounds.

Alec Engerbretson scored 21 points and Brett Bradley added 20 points for Logos.

Lakeside hosts Coeur d’Alene Charter on Thursday.
