SPOKANE — Zaequan “Ziggy” Satterthwaite had 24 points and 12 rebounds for North Idaho College, but the Cardinals came up short in a 101-94 loss to the Community Colleges of Spokane Sasquatch in an Northwest Athletic Conference East Region game at Spokane Falls Community College on Saturday.
Sam Dowd had 26 points, six rebounds and four assists for NIC (15-3, 3-2 NWAC), which outrebounded Spokane 46-31.
“We’re just having a tough time guarding right now,” NIC coach Corey Symons said. “We played well and scored the ball. They just hit some shots down the stretch and we couldn’t get a stop when we needed to.”
NIC, which hosts Wenatchee Valley on Wednesday, cut the deficit to two points with under two minutes remaining, but Spokane got an offensive rebound and 3-pointer to stretch the advantage.
“They hit some big shots,” said Symons of Spokane, which made 16 of 42 from beyond the 3-point line. “We had some bad rotations and they made us pay. Sometimes it’s a coin flip if they’ll make them, but they made the big ones. ”
Garrett Hull had 26 points for Spokane (14-4, 3-2).

OREGON CITY, Ore. — Jeremy Merryweather won by major decision at 197 pounds, the lone win for the seventh-ranked Cardinals in a dual loss to the second-ranked Cougars.
“It was as bad as it looked,” NIC coach Pat Whitcomb said. “We looked good as a group yesterday, but didn’t today. Clackamas is a tough group, and we made them look really tough. We just didn’t wrestle well. I think we’ve all got to take a look at it, do things better, and compete a lot harder than we did.”
NIC will compete in the Clackamas Open today.
