On Tuesday, Aug. 6, 2019, John Phillip Caputa, of Roopville, Ga., husband and loving father of two, passed away at the age of 57. He was born in Detroit, Mich., on Oct. 5, 1961. He moved with his family at a young age to Colorado, where he spent his childhood and early adult years living in Boulder.

He relocated to Georgia in 1996, where he met and married his wife, Marti, on March 17, 2000. Together they had a son, Kirby, and settled in Roopville.

John had a daughter, Katie, from a previous marriage and had five grandchildren. He and Marti also spent several years as foster parents to children in need. He was diagnosed with a terminal lung disease in 2017, and then relocated to Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, to spend time with his daughter and grandchildren while he sought expert medical care in the region.

A Christian by faith, John was an entrepreneur and sales manager with a strong work ethic. He worked closely with law enforcement and public safety agencies across the Southeast, where he forged many friendships and a deep respect for those in public service. But it was his family that he was most devoted to.

He had a passion for aviation and participated in the Civil Air Patrol with his son. His interests also included fishing, writing and painting.

John is preceded in death by his mother, Bonnielu (Kirby) Caputa. He is survived by his wife, Martha “Marti” Kennedy and son, Kirby Caputa of Roopville; daughter, Katie and son-in-law, Seth Kasunick and grandchildren, Emory and Everett Moore and Jonah, Simon and Clair Kasunick, all of Coeur d’Alene; father, Joseph Caputa, Jr. and step-mom, Barb Caputa of Westminister, Colo.; three brothers: Rob (Connie) Caputa of Casper, Wyo., Rick (Angie) Caputa of Westminster and Kirk Caputa of Sarasota, Fla., mother- and father-in-law Ron and Ruby Kennedy of Palatine, IL, sister-in-law Sandy Kennedy of Palatine, IL, sister and brother-in law Sheila Kennedy and Barry Luppowitz of Kennesaw, Ga.; as well as several nieces and nephews.

There will be a memorial service held on at 4 p.m. on Sept. 14, 2019, at John’s church home, Caney Head United Methodist Church, in Roopville. A family memorial service will be held on Oct. 5, 2019, in Colorado, where he will have his ashes spread on the land he used to hunt with his family.

The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Caney Head United Methodist Church, c/o Hazel Reeves, 130 Dickerson Road, Franklin, GA 30217.
