Fundraising soirée scheduled for Feb. 21
MOSES LAKE — Columbia Basin Allied Arts officials have announced the cancellation of the Columbia Basin Talent Invitational, previously scheduled for Jan. 11.
It would have been the second talent show, originally conceived as an annual event.
“We are working out details to make the event more sustainable through collaboration with several community arts groups and look forward to holding another (talent show) in the future,” wrote Allied Arts director Shawn Cardwell.
The next CBAA performance is scheduled for March 6, when the Seattle Shakespeare Company performs “Hamlet” at the Wallenstien Theater on the Big Bend Community College campus. The production is part of the company’s Premiere series, which is family-friendly but targeted at adults.
The company’s English-Spanish adaptation tells the classic story of the Prince of Denmark, although for the SSC production the play is set in Mexico on the Day of the Dead. Hamlet’s father, or rather his father’s ghost, appears at the royal castle demanding justice and accusing his brother Claudius of murdering him.
Allied Arts will sponsor its annual fundraising dinner – actually a fundraising soirée – Feb. 21 at the ATEC Building at BBCC. “Red” is the theme for 2020, continuing the tradition of the last few years.
The evening includes dinner and a live auction featuring experience-based packages and art, much of it original art.

No injuries when plane attempts to land at Moses Lake Sand Dunes
MOSES LAKE — No injuries were reported when a small plane attempted to land at the Moses Lake Sand Dunes early Wednesday evening. Ty Svancara, 24, Moses Lake, was the only occupant of the Piper PA-18-150, and was not injured, said Kyle Foreman, public information officer for the Grant County Sheriff's Office.
