POST FALLS — A man is being held on $250,000 bail after police said he committed his third DUI offense in two years.
Hal B. Meyer, 52, of Coeur d’Alene, is charged with driving under the influence, a felony, and contempt of court, a misdemeanor.
Idaho State Police initiated a traffic stop near a Post Falls bar about half past midnight on Dec. 24, according to reports. Police said the vehicle failed to use its turn signal as it left the bar.
The driver, identified as Meyer, allegedly told police he had a few drinks at the bar.
Meyer reportedly provided a breath sample of .16. In Idaho, a blood alcohol level of .08 or more is considered legally impaired. Police also reportedly collected a blood sample.
Meyer was convicted of driving under the influence twice in 2019, according to court documents, both times in Kootenai County. In Idaho, a third DUI violation within 10 years is a felony punishable by up to a decade in prison.
Police said Meyer was required by court order to have an ignition interlock device, which measures the amount of alcohol in the user’s breath.
Meyer did not have the device when police stopped him.
Judge Clark Peterson ordered Monday that Meyer be held on $250,000 bail. He also ordered that Meyer not drive if released.
