PREP GIRLS BASKETBALL: Colvin's big first half sparks Vikings; Cessna leads Bulldogs

MERIDIAN — Junior guard Teagan Colvin scored 22 of her 27 points in the first half as the Coeur d’Alene Vikings ran past the Rocky Mountain Grizzlies 72-44 on Saturday to complete a three-game road sweep of 5A Southern Idaho Conference teams.
Madi Symons added 15 points, Libby Awbery 12 for Coeur d’Alene (4-0). Colvin hit three 3-pointers, all in the first half.
“Teams are still doubling down on Madi which allows us to kick out to (Colvin),” Coeur d’Alene coach Nicole Symons said. “Teagan had some transition buckets and scoring off screens.”
Logan Sailors scored 12 points for Rocky Mountain (2-4).
Coeur d’Alene plays three Inland Empire League games against 4A schools in an eight-day span, starting Tuesday at home vs. Sandpoint.

EAGLE — Junior Sophia Zufelt hit five 3-pointers and scored 20 points as the Timberwolves overcame a slow start to beat the Mustangs for their third win in three days at 5A Southern Idaho Conference foes.
Avery Waddington added 12 points, Emberlyn Reynolds nine for Lake City (7-0).
“Good opportunity for us to travel and have to play in a similar scenario to state,” Lake City coach James Anderson said. “Really got tested today, falling down 14-7 with tired legs. Proud how we fought and changed how we play to accommodate cold shooting. Sophia really stepped up and got us rolling.”
Paige Cofer scored 13 points for Eagle (0-6).
Lake City plays host to Moscow on Tuesday.

MERIDIAN — Senior Capri Sims led three Trojans in double figures with 19 points in a win over the Warriors, who were picked to finish ninth in the 13-team 5A Southern Idaho Conference.
Brooklyn Brennan had 13 points, Kinlee McLean 10 for Post Falls (6-0), which also beat Rocky Mountain (picked fifth in 5A SIC) on Thursday and Eagle (fourth in 5A SIC) on Friday.
“We were able to play our bench a little today after our starters got it going in the first quarter and did a pretty good job,” Post Falls coach Brian Hall said. “We had some turnovers early on, but cleaned that up the rest of the ballgame. Getting both Kinlee and Brooklynn into double figures was a big confidence booster going into next week.”
Post Falls hosts Sandpoint on Friday.

SANDPOINT — Kelsey Cessna scored 13 of her 24 points in the first quarter, and the Bulldogs led 25-0 after one en route to the win over the Knights at Les Rogers Court as part of the Border Clash.
“Kelsey Cessna’s scoring is on fire,” Sandpoint coach Will Love said.
Karlie Banks scored 10 of her 17 points in the second quarter for Sandpoint (4-1).
East Valley scored its lone basket with six minutes to go in the second quarter. Sandpoint led 48-2 at halftime.
“It was nice to have these two games to work some of the wrinkles out,” Love said of the event.
Sandpoint plays at Coeur d’Alene on Tuesday.

RATHDRUM — Ziya Munyer (20 points and 10 rebounds) and Kenna Simon (17 points, 12 boards) each had double-doubles as the Hawks used a 46-point first half to pull away from the Eagles at Hawk Court as part of the Border Clash.
“It was fun to see our girls really push themselves in transition,” said first-year Lakeland coach Tyrel Derrick, whose squad won 58-9 at East Valley on Friday.
Lila Kiefer chipped in 15 points for Lakeland (4-2), and Kartsyn Kiefer had six assists.
Junior guard Chloe Deharo scored 21 of her 32 points in the first half for West Valley. She hit four 3-pointers in the half, the last one becoming a four-point play just before half.
Derrick praised the defense of Landree Simon and Karstyn Kiefer for holding Deharo to just one basket in the second half.
