SPIRIT LAKE — In a back-and-fourth game between district rivals, the host Tigers led by 11 points after three quarters, then staved off a last-minute comeback by the Hawks in the regular-season finale for both teams.

Jenna Chase hit five 3-pointers and scored 19 points for Timberlake (14-5), which lost 55-49 at Lakeland on Nov. 18. McKennah Kronenberg hit three 3s and added 16 for the Tigers.

Kenna Simon scored 15 points for Lakeland (7-9), which hit three 3s in the first quarter — two by Payton Sterling — to jump out to a 19-9 lead.

Timberlake cut the Hawks’ lead to 35-29 at halftime, then outscored the visitors 22-5 in the third quarter.

“They owned the first half,” Timberlake coach Matt Miller said. “They’re just so long. That third quarter was our best quarter of the season. Everything seemed to click offensively and defensively. And making shots helps, too.”

Lakeland hit a short jumper with three seconds left to pull within one, and Timberlake was able to let the clock run out without inbounding.

Sterling finished with nine points, all on 3s. Ella Terzulli hit two 3s and added eight points for the Hawks.

Lakeland will play either Moscow or Sandpoint on Monday in the loser-out first round of the 4A Region 1 tournament. Moscow plays at Sandpoint on Friday, and the winner will be the top seed, and the loser will play Lakeland.

Timberlake is the top seed in the 3A District 1 tournament, and will play host to No. 4 Priest River on Saturday at 3 p.m. in a first-round game.
