WHITEFISH, Mont. — Joe DuCoeur was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh inning to drive in the winning run, lifting the Coeur d’Alene Lumbermen “AA” team past the Spokane Expos 19U 6-5 on Saturday and into the championship game of the Sapa-Johnsrud Memorial Tournament at Memorial Field.

Coeur d’Alene (27-7), which has won 11 straight games and 16 of its last 17, will play in the title game tonight at 6:45 PDT against a team to be determined later Saturday.

“Joe knocked in the first two, and he took a ball in the back to win the game,” Coeur d’Alene coach Darren Taylor said. “And of course he caught a masterpiece, as always.”

DuCoeur hit a two-run single in the first inning to score Marcus Manzardo and Austin Taylor.

Spencer Zeller had two hits for the Lums, including an RBI single in the second to make it 4-0.

After the Expos tied it at 4, Cooper Larson singled and scored on a fielder’s choice for Coeur d’Alene.

The Expos tied it again on a two-out, run-scoring triple in the top of the seventh.

In the bottom half, Kyle Bridge was hit by a pitch, Eric Bumbaugh reached on a bunt single and Zeller was hit by a pitch to load the bases.

After a strikeout and a lineout, DuCoeur was hit on a 2-2 count to end the game.

“It’s a different level of competition every game,” Taylor said. “I think we’re doing enough to manufacture enough runs to win.”
