AUBURN, Wash. — AJ Currie struck out seven over four two-hit innings for Coeur d’Alene, which improved to 3-0 to win its pool at the Josh Dickerson Memorial Tournament with an 11-1 win over the Northwest Reign at Brannan Park on Saturday.

Ethan Taylor, who finished with three RBIs against the Northwest Reign, gave the Lumbermen a 3-0 lead with a two-run double in the top of the first inning.

Earlier, Cooper Larson and Ryan Schneider drove in two runs each as the Lumbermen beat the Narrows SPL 18U 6-4.

Kyle Bridge had two hits and scored two runs and Owen Benson pitched a complete game for Coeur d’Alene.

Coeur d’Alene (15-6) advances to single-elimination bracket play today. The semifinals and championship games will be played at Bellevue College.

“AJ pitched a great game and Owen did the same in the first game,” Coeur d’Alene coach Darren Taylor said. “Pitching is our No. 1 story and we were able to save Ryan (Schneider), Jayden (Butler) and Cooper Erickson for Sunday, so we gave ourselves a chance. But we’re going to have to throw some great games against some great teams.”

Coeur d’Alene took the lead in the first inning against Narrows SPL on a sacrifice fly by Schneider, followed by an RBI single by Joe DuCoeur, who finished the game with three hits.

“We had some timely hits, which we didn’t get on Friday,” Taylor said. “And we executed some plays nicely. I’m really happy with how we’re starting to put it together offensively, and play well defensively as well.”
