NIC SOFTBALL: Columbia Basin takes two from Cardinals

PASCO, Wash. — Taryn Vanderwiel and Aleskya Batoon had RBI singles in the top of the sixth inning to pull North Idaho College within a run, but the Cardinals were unable to push across the tying run in an 8-7 loss to Columbia Basin in the first game of a Northwest Athletic Conference doubleheader on Saturday afternoon.
Columbia Basin led 11-1 after three innings in the second game, winning 11-2 to complete the sweep.
Kahlea Dumas, a freshman from Post Falls, had three hits on the day. In the second game, Dumas tripled in the first inning, then scored on a wild pitch. Emma Todhunter had three hits and three RBIs in the first game for NIC.
NIC (9-9, 4-4 NWAC) returns home to face Yakima Valley at Memorial Field on Friday at 2 p.m.
Columbia Basin is 13-6, 7-1.
