ONTARIO, Ore. — Sophomore Paige Beem scored 16 points on 7 of 8 shooting off the bench for the Cardinals, who outscored the Chukars 15-6 in the fourth quarter of a Northwest Athletic Conference win.
Addie Kiefer, a freshman from Lakeland High, had 10 points and nine rebounds for NIC, which led 31-26 at halftime.
“We talked about being more patient and getting the ball inside tonight,” said NIC coach Nathan Covill, whose team shot 25 of 54. “We struggled early to get quality touches, but both Paige and Addie did a good job of finishing at the rim tonight.”
NIC (11-9, 5-4 SWAC) moved into third in the East Region with six games remaining in the regular season. The top four teams from each region advance to the NWAC Championships starting March 8 at Columbia Basin College in Pasco, Wash.
Treasure Valley is 3-18, 1-9.
NIC returns to action Wednesday at Columbia Basin, which has won six straight games. The Cardinals beat the Hawks 62-46 in the conference opener on Jan. 4 in Coeur d’Alene.
“We played well against them at home, but it will be a different game,” Covill said. “They’ve been playing well lately and we need to execute on the offensive and defensive end.”
