Columbia Basin swimming pools publish opening dates

MOSES LAKE — It’s that time of year – city crews have swept out all the dead leaves, all the toys are back up and the pool is full, or almost full. Summer is dead ahead.
The Surf ‘n Slide Water Park, 401 W. Fourth Ave., has already opened for the summer – the joint was jumping Memorial Day weekend – and will be open the first two Saturdays and Sundays in June. Daily operation begins June 15, after Moses Lake School District classes are dismissed for the summer.
Surf ‘n Slide daily admission ranges from $9 to $18, depending on age. The pool opens at 11 a.m. each day.
The Splash Zone, 780 A St. SE in Ephrata, opens for summer June 12. Daily entrance fees are $12.25 to $14.25, again depending on age. The pool opens at noon Monday through Saturday, and at 2 p.m. Sunday.
The Quincy Aquatic Center, 724 F St. SE, opens its doors for the summer June 16. The Quincy pool is split into two parts, and while one section of it will be open on the first day, the other section might not.
Quincy Parks and Recreation Director Russ Harrington said the original pool, now used for lap swimming among other things, is under repair and may not open on the first day.
“We are planning to open it,” Harrington said, at least at some point during the summer.
In the meantime the waterslide pool will be open. Quincy’s open swim session starts every day at 1 p.m. Admission is $4 or $5 per day, depending on age.
The Othello Community Pool, 1135 E. Pine St., also opens June 17. The pool opens daily
at noon. Daily admission depends on age, and is either $7.14 or $8.42.
All local swimming pools have waterslides, and all offer multiple sessions of swimming lessons. Parents can visit each city’s website for swim lesson registration information. Each pool also is host to a swim team.
All local pools are available for private party rentals.

Road closures, roundabout, mean construction season underway
EPHRATA — The grass is starting to turn green, the trees are starting to leaf out, construction crews are starting to build roundabouts – hey, it’s spring. At least one roundabout project is in its final phase, held over from fall 2025. The intersection of State Route 282 and Nat Washington Way will be closed the week of April 6 to allow crews to install permanent lights. “This really is the final (closure),” wrote Grant County Administrator Tom Gaines in a media release. “The roundabout will close at 6 a.m. Monday, and we plan to reopen by Friday, possibly sooner if the work finishes early.”
Ybarra announces run for Washington Senate
QUINCY — State Representative Alex Ybarra, R-Quincy, has announced his candidacy for the Washington Senate. If he’s elected, he would replace Judy Warnick, R-Moses Lake, who announced her retirement in March.
Othello Community Museum to open April 25
OTHELLO — With a couple of new exhibits, a new heating-cooling system, rearranged displays and a thorough cleaning, the Othello Community Museum will open for the summer April 25. The goal, said Molly Popchock, museum board secretary, is to operate for a full season.
