A 77-year-old Polson man died and two people were injured in a three-vehicle crash near Marion at 4:47 p.m. Friday.
According to Montana Highway Patrol, the Polson man, who was driving a BMW 325i, was turning left and merging onto U.S. 2 from Violet Bay when the vehicle lost control for an unknown reason, colliding with an Itasca motor home traveling eastbound.
The Itasca motor home, driven by a 61-year-old man from Des Plaines, Illinois, veered and overturned on the north side of U.S. 2. The BMW rotated. A Ford F350, driven by a 74-year-old Libby man, was traveling westbound on U.S. 2 when it struck the BMW.
The Polson man was transported by air ambulance to Logan Health where he was later pronounced dead. The Libby man and his passenger, a 74-year-old woman, also from Libby, were injured and taken to Logan Health. The Illinois man and his passenger, a 60-year-old woman, also from Des Plaines, were not injured. According to troopers, the Polson man was the only person not wearing a seat belt.
Road conditions were reported as clear and dry.
