City council seats open in all Grant County towns in November election

EPHRATA — Mayoral and city council seats throughout Grant County will be on the ballot in the November 2023 general election. Candidate filing week will be May 15-19.
All city council positions are non-partisan. Some seats have a filing fee, which must be paid at the time of filing.
The Moses Lake City Council will have three seats up for election; the incumbents in those positions are David Eck, David Skaug and current Mayor Don Myers. Four seats are up for election on the Ephrata City Council. The incumbents are Valli Millard, Kathleen Allstot, Tony Mora and William Coe.
The mayor’s job will be on the ballot in Mattawa; Maria Celaya is the incumbent. Four of the seven seats on the Mattawa council also are up for election. The incumbents are Sun Hwang, Brian Berghout, Alex Heredia and Fabiola Hernandez.
Five of the seven Soap Lake City Council seats will be on the November ballot, along with the job of Mayor Michelle Agliano. The council incumbents are Leslie Taylor, Douglas Bill Bratton, Andrew Arnold and JoAnn Rushton. One council seat is vacant.
Four of the seven Quincy City Council seats will be on the ballot in November. The incumbents are Josey Ferguson, Sonia Padron, Tom Harris and Dylan Kling. Three seats are open on the Royal City Council; Perla Garcia, Hector Rodriguez and Mackenzee Anderson are the incumbents.
Warden also will be selecting a mayor; Tony Massa is the incumbent. Three Warden City Council seats also will be on the November ballot. Emily Campos, Rosaelia Martinez and Lori Watson-Esparza are the incumbents.
Mayoral positions in George and Grand Coulee will be on the ballot. Gerene Nelson is the incumbent in George, and Paul Towsend is the incumbent Grand Coulee mayor. Two city council seats are open in George. The incumbents are Hector Oliva and Patty Neff. Four seats will be up for election in Grand Coulee. The incumbents are Anita Eylar, Gary Carriere, Ruth Dalton and Alan Cain.
The Wilson Creek town council has two open seats. The incumbents are Karl Hinze and Debbie Moore. Four seats are open on the town council in Coulee City, Jennifer Schwartz, Travis Leining, Steve Bond and April Harward are the incumbents.
The town of Marlin (also called Krupp) elects a treasurer, and the seat is up in November. Katherine Lesser is the incumbent. Four other seats are open on the Marlin/Krupp town council; the incumbents are Cecily Hendricks, Paul Friend, Paula Horton and Jasper Hendricks.
Three seats on the Electric City City Council will be up for election, currently held by Brian Buche, Cate Slater and Cheryl Hoffman.
Four seats are open on the Hartline Town Council. The incumbents are Mark Frye, Jacob Johnson, David Philip and Matt Baergen.

Road closures, roundabout, mean construction season underway
EPHRATA — The grass is starting to turn green, the trees are starting to leaf out, construction crews are starting to build roundabouts – hey, it’s spring. At least one roundabout project is in its final phase, held over from fall 2025. The intersection of State Route 282 and Nat Washington Way will be closed the week of April 6 to allow crews to install permanent lights. “This really is the final (closure),” wrote Grant County Administrator Tom Gaines in a media release. “The roundabout will close at 6 a.m. Monday, and we plan to reopen by Friday, possibly sooner if the work finishes early.”
Ybarra announces run for Washington Senate
QUINCY — State Representative Alex Ybarra, R-Quincy, has announced his candidacy for the Washington Senate. If he’s elected, he would replace Judy Warnick, R-Moses Lake, who announced her retirement in March.
Othello Community Museum to open April 25
OTHELLO — With a couple of new exhibits, a new heating-cooling system, rearranged displays and a thorough cleaning, the Othello Community Museum will open for the summer April 25. The goal, said Molly Popchock, museum board secretary, is to operate for a full season.
