Masquers to open Christmas play this weekend
STAFF REPORT | Hagadone News Network | UPDATED 1 year AGO
SOAP LAKE — “A Good Old-Fashioned Big Family Christmas” will open tomorrow at the Masquers Theater in Soap Lake, according to an announcement from Publicity Chair Darryl Pheasant.
The play follows three generations, including in-laws, gathered under one roof for Christmas, according to the announcement. Some have dreams of the good old days. Others have dreams of simply surviving the day. Then there are in-laws needling at each other, kids miserable and bored to death and a college student plotting her escape.
Hayden (newcomer Derit Watson) and Judith (Machelle Miller) come up with the idea to invite the whole family to their home for Christmas. Together with her sisters Carla and Beth, Judith hatches a plan to save her parents’ relationship that she’s just sure needs rescuing. The husbands, on the other hand, just want to get away to Hayden’s garage. Meanwhile, Hayden and Judith's college freshman daughter, Phoebe (Hailey Dalton), arrives and quickly makes it known she'd rather be with her friends. It's an idyllic family gathering with, perhaps, a less-than-idyllic family.
This family-friendly show is directed by first-time director and Masquers actor Jason Noble, according to the announcement. It will run for two weekends, from Dec. 6-8 and 13-15. GOFBFC continues the Masquers tradition of running outstanding Christmas shows that can be enjoyed by people of all ages, Pheasant wrote.
“‘A Good Old-Fashioned Big Family Christmas’ is a very funny script that's been elevated to ‘Laugh-Out-Loud’ status thanks to the work and creativity of this cast,” director Jason Noble wrote in the announcement. ‘I've always believed that … a character must be believable and, above all, real. This mentality has been adopted by our cast and, with it, they’ve made a very comedic story also totally relatable to folks of any generation. I couldn’t be more honored to have my name attached to this group of actors.”
