MOSES LAKE — So – where did everybody go? The surfer, the softball and soccer players that have been in place for years along West Third Avenue in Moses Lake – where did they go? Did they have a game? Go for a run? Where are they?

Actually, they’ve been removed for some upkeep, according to the Moses Lake Museum & Art Center.

“The parks maintenance crew has been taking down the heavy sculptures and transporting them back to the shop to be refurbished,” wrote Natalia Zuyeva, museum communications coordinator, in a press release. “They will be sandblasted, repainted and powder coated to extend their life span.”

The circular sculptures downtown also have been removed for refurbishment, Zuyeva said.

Some of them will not be returning to West Third Avenue, she said. She cited the surfer, who will be set up at the Surf ‘n Slide water park when the refurbishment is complete.

“Moving some of the Third Avenue sculptures will free up space for some new and different public art going forward,” Zuyeva said.

The skateboarder who usually hangs out at the Moses Lake skate park is on his way to the shop for cleaning and repair.
