Detours in place on I-90 for recreational exits

I-90 road construction has a few areas tousled up in Mineral County.

The Cyr exit westbound is closed for the summer by detouring those who want to float the Alberton Gorge to use the Fish Creek exit a couple miles farther west. Westbound floaters will not be disturbed as this has always been the point to access the launch point.

Up at the top near Lookout Pass, Montana Department of Transportation, In conjunction with Acme Concrete Paving, Inc., have begun reconstruction from mile marker 3.4 to 5.7.

With the start of the Hiawatha Trail cycling season, measures to ensure that cyclists and motorists can access the trailhead as safely as possible are in effect by directing eastbound traffic to Saltese. Driving past the Taft interchange to the Saltese Exit a few miles further east, will allow a backtrack on the frontage road to the Taft parking area.

From there the road is open to the Hiawatha Trail for the big adventure of a gentle downhill 15-mile bicycle ride with 10-large and dark train tunnels (9 that you ride your bike through) and 7 sky-high train trestles. Trail passes, shuttle tickets and mountain bike rentals are available at Lookout Pass Ski Area which east bound travelers will see on their right at exit 0.

Through this area on I-90, expect 10 to 15-minute delays, reduced speeds of 35 mph, lane shifts with crossovers to shift all traffic to the westbound side, and single-lane traffic when traveling through the project area. Traffic may be routed onto the interstate shoulder when work is occurring.

The public is encouraged to contact Joan Redeen at 406-396-1978 with any questions or comments. For information on riding the Hiawatha Trail, call 208-744-1234.
