RITZVILLE — With the final results in, about 64.99% of eligible Adams County voters cast ballots in the 2024 general election. The results were certified Tuesday.
That’s lower than county turnout in the last two presidential elections. Turnout was 76% in 2020 and 72.6% in 2016.
Incumbent Adams County Commissioners Dan Blankenship and Jay Weise both won reelection to a second term.
Blankenship received 2,955 votes (60.73%) to 1,813 votes (37.26%) for challenger David Lobe. There were 98 write-in votes.
Weise received 3,206 votes (66.1%); his challenger Hank Rivard received 1,554 votes (32.04%). There were 90 write-in votes.
All four candidates are Republicans.
Adams County Superior Court Judge K. Peter Palubicki was running unopposed and received 3,882 votes. There were 121 write in votes.
Republican Michael Baumgartner, Spokane, was elected to the U.S., House of Representatives for Washington’s Fifth District, defeating Democrat Carmela Conroy, Spokane. Baumgartner received 240,619 votes in the district (60.57%) to 156,074 votes (39.29%) for Conroy. Adams County voters followed the trend, casting 2.034 votes for Baumgartner to 401 for Conroy.
Fourth Congressional District incumbent Dan Newhouse, R-Yakima, defeated challenger and fellow Republican Jerrod Sessler. Newhouse received 153,477 votes (52.01%) to 136,175 (46.15%) for Sessler. Adams County voters reversed those percentages, casting 1,387 votes for Sessler (51.28%) to 1.259 (46.54%) for Newhouse.
Incumbent Ninth District Senator Mark Schoesler, R-Ritzville, also ran unopposed for a new term; he received 3,092 votes in Adams County, and 57,974 votes districtwide. There were 162 write-in votes in Adams County and 2,967 districtwide.
Incumbent Mary Dye, R-Pomeroy, also won reelection, receiving 50,468 votes districtwide (64.88%) to 27,092 votes (34.83%) for her Democratic opponent Patrick Miller. In Adams County Dye received 2,898 votes (76.73%) to 853 (22.58%) for Miller.
Incumbent Joe Schmick, R-Colfax, also successfully defended his seat, getting 50,211 votes districtwide (63.92%) to 28,236 votes (35.94%) for challenger Pam Kohlmeier, a Democrat. Adams County voters cast 2,935 votes (77.2%) to 858 (22.57%) for Kohlmeier.
State Representatives Tom Dent and Alex Ybarra, representing the 13th District, both ran unopposed. Both are Republicans.
Dent received 51,493 votes districtwide and 1,172 votes in Adams County. There were 1,406 write-in votes districtwide.
Ybarra received 51,012 votes districtwide with 1,210 write-in votes. Adams County voters cast 1,161 votes for Ybarra.

Road projects on hold for Labor Day weekend
MOSES LAKE — With Labor Day weekend dead ahead, drivers will be able to move freely about the state. Most road projects are on hold for the holiday weekend. Nobody will be working on the Hansen Road overpass on Interstate 90, but the lane restrictions that are in effect will continue through the end of the project.
