MOSES LAKE — Moses Lake Classic Car Club members went cruising to Lynnwood last month to accept special recognition from the Washington State Hot Rod Hall of Fame.

Outgoing MLCCC President Dave Robins said it commemorated the club’s 50th anniversary, but it was more than that.

“They recognize you for your community service (and) for your longevity,” Robins said.

The MLCCC also picked up an award for having the loudest response when its name was called, Robins said. Representatives from 15 car clubs attended. The organization will be changing its name to the Washington State and Greater Northwest Hot Rod Hall of Fame, Robins said.

The MLCCC dates back to 1974, but it has its roots in an older group that started back in the 1950s when Moses Lake was home to the Larson Air Force Base. The Pacers car club was made up of guys who lived around town, often in the military, who had and loved cars.

The MLCCC got its start as the Horseless Carriage Club, Robins said in an earlier interview, which was its name until 2001. It was a little more loosely organized; its members decided to become an official non-profit, and with that came a new name.

While classic cars are in the name, it’s open to any kind of ride that’s loved by its owner, Robins said. That includes trucks and bicycles, motorcycles and any kind of car, old or new.

Its members have stressed community service, especially in the last few years, Robins said. Among other projects club members have raised money for Youth Dynamics and the Moses Lake Food Bank. Its members partner with other car clubs around town, including the Diverse Society and Lakesiders car clubs. Some MLCCC members brought their cars to a June car show which raised money for ALS research.

Car owners have different rides, but all of them like showing off their cars, telling the story behind their cars – every car has one – and admiring other cars, no matter the make or model. Robins has a 1954 Ford Crestline Victora, the car he was driving when he met his wife Ann. The Crestline has allowed him to meet people he might not have known otherwise, he said.

Road closures, roundabout, mean construction season underway

EPHRATA — The grass is starting to turn green, the trees are starting to leaf out, construction crews are starting to build roundabouts – hey, it’s spring. At least one roundabout project is in its final phase, held over from fall 2025. The intersection of State Route 282 and Nat Washington Way will be closed the week of April 6 to allow crews to install permanent lights. “This really is the final (closure),” wrote Grant County Administrator Tom Gaines in a media release. “The roundabout will close at 6 a.m. Monday, and we plan to reopen by Friday, possibly sooner if the work finishes early.”
