The Bulldog football team is getting better every week, adding to a streak of three high-scoring games with a 38-10 win over Polson in a crucial Western A game Friday, Oct. 18.
The victory boosted the Dogs to 5-3 overall and 5-2 in league play.
“Coach Boyle and Coach Ross have done a phenomenal job of settling our guys into what we can excel in, and that’s what we’ve been seeing that the last few weeks — growing in confidence offensively,” Bollweg said.
The team scored 48 points against Stevensville last week and 42 against Bigfork the week prior.
Carson Gulick threw for three touchdowns, and CJ Thew and Riley Zetooney scored two touchdowns each. Gulick completed 15 of 20 passes for 172 yards, including scoring strikes of 29 and 36 yards to Thew and 25 yards to Calvin Eisenbarth.
Tait Orme, who was 5-for-5 on PAT kicks, added a 37-yard field goal in the fourth.
Zetooney’s scoring runs included 58 yards in the first quarter and 10 yards in the second. Zetooney finished with 137 yards on 11 carries.
Gulick added 52 rushing yards on six carries, while Zetooney caught three passes for 33 yards. Thew had a team-high five catches for 67 yards; Eisenbarth had two for 41.
Bollweg said that the team’s success has been a community-wide effort.
“A big thank you to our community – all the people that make our football program a special environment for our guys, from cheering us on in the stands, to painting the field; it makes a big difference for us,” Bollweg said.
Bollweg said he remembers even going into the Stevensville game and seeing Bulldog supporters in the stands. “We have a lot of people out there.”
The team will travel to Browning on Friday for the last regular-season game.
“We struggled through some tough games at the beginning of the season, but we battled well and are now feeling the fruits of our labor, and hopefully peaking at the right time as we finish out the regular season,” Bollweg said.
